You descend the dusty steps into the once great tomb that you recently uncovered. This amazing pyramid is your greatest discovery yet. Being the world’s best archaeologist is a difficult occupation, but you’ve got the historic know-how and panache to make it work. Your crew have been excavating this site for a few days, with many great and wondrous treasures being discovered. You wander over to Jen, your lead researcher, and ask her if she’s had any luck deciphering the hieroglyphics on the tomb walls. “It’s very odd, Professor,” she says to you, “at first I thought it was something to do with the embalming process, but after a better look, well… see for yourself.” You study her translations, and as improbable as it would seem, the ancient markings do indeed translate not into burial techniques, but rather into your monthly update on all things JAC-Dan.
Well, well! September is upon us already. Doesn’t time just whizz by? You know what that means- It will soon be time to start up regular JAC-Dan meets again! Man, I am buzzing for that. I’ve missed you all and I can’t wait to meet our new members. Our first meeting for this academic year will be on the 23rd, where we’ll be having our Anime Vote for this semester.
You may or may not have noticed, but we’ve tidied up our image a little. We have a new logo, designed by ex-president and veteran shogun Matthew Tinn, which you’ll see on all of our promotional material. It features a clearer and more stylish font, but the same colours. We wanted it to represent how we’ve grown as a society, but still have the same roots as always!
As with every year, we’ll be at the Society Fair at the SU on the 17th, desperately begging the freshers to join our society and give us their money. Come and find our table and say hello! If you’re a new student, we welcome you on board, and if you’re an existing member, hey, you have to renew that membership some time you know =P May as well come and do it here!
Oh, and Domino’s was there last year giving out free pizza, so, you know, that’s a huge incentive right there.
As is tradition, towards the beginning of the semester, we have the fabled Anime Quest. It’s designed to give new students unfamiliar with Newcastle an idea of where the geeky shops are in the form of a small tour. It’s also a great excuse to try out some of those new discounts you’ll have with your shiny new membership card! We’ll be meeting outside the SU at 12PM and we’ll be going on a tour that will end up with us finishing at the Metrocentre, where we’ll be fulfilling a stereotype and eating sushi. Hope to see you there!
Our next meeting
is on the 23rd of September, at 6PM, in Room 031 in Lipman Building. We will be holding our Anime Vote for this semester, as well as giving a brief introduction to the new students. The customary ice breaker events will also happen to get the freshers to open up a little. We’ll crack them open one way or another.
The next meeting after that will be on the 30th, same time, same place. We will be holding an origami workshop, as well as holding the society vote for our Treasurer position.
That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you all very soon!
Thank you very much for your continued interest and support.
